Whether you accept or deny, Game of Thrones is one of the greatest and most viewed shows in American history. And if you haven’t seen any of its seasons so far, you in for a real treat. The question is, what makes it much popular and why do so many people watch it? We have compiled 5 major reasons why everyone (not exactly!) obsessed with Game of Thrones. So, let’s get it on!
1: Emotional Investment in All Stories
The authors named George R. R. Martin and showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss both created a story with the emotional investment that gives everyone strong feelings about every character. Every single story gives us a reason to care whether it is the white hatred we all feel for the unadulterated devotion to Joffrey or for Tyrion Lannister. This emotional investment is the major reason what brings everyone back on weekly basis and frankly speaking, this is the main aspect behind why we are not able to help but count down the days until April every year.
2: So many Deaths
The rampant death is one of our favourite part of Game of Thrones. Everybody is fair, from Sean Bean in Season 1 to Joffrey Baratheon – mentioned above. Sometimes we root for the disappearance of hated characters – whereas most of the times we are shocked when we are joined to meet their respective creators. But Game of Thrones is unique because half the audience knows they are about to die, giving the audience the additional pleasure of watching people react on the screen. That most recently came to an end – though, with Season 6 outpacing the books. That brings all of us to our next point.
3: Predicting Anything is Almost Impossible
Every book reader can easily prove that it is foolish to try to predict what will happen in the next episode of Game of Thrones. People have different theories, but it seems to surprise us always in the end. With so many plotlines, characters and stories up in the air, it can be more than a bit difficult to nag the fate of anybody. But twists and turns never feel too compelled (a la latter-year M. Night Shyamalan), with satisfactory or even horrifying conclusions. This happened with the prelude episode each season, with mass death and carnage that left audiences on the floor with their jaws as the credits roll out.
4: A Plethora of Characters
The Game of Thrones has always flourished throughout the Seven Kingdoms with its so many characters. Getting checked in on one location often involves digging into the complex motivations and workings of minimum four to 4 people – each and every single person with a compelling story to tell. Even more impressively though, each and every single plot tie into the main story in some way, form and shape with these many characters to be handled. Until later on down the line, we don’t realize that but the people in this universe serve the greater plot in an exquisite and dazzling way. There is seldom an awkward moment, helped by a cast ensemble, which cannot be enjoyed.
5: The Crossover Appeal
If you want to enjoy the Game of Thrones, you no longer need to love to dragons, medieval weaponry or wizards. It really has something for everyone with its complex political drama and skilled writers. Actually, a love for a well-told story is the only prerequisite to enjoy this show. Its similarities to fewer politics like House of Cards are easy to identify and demonstrate its inclination to concentrate on telling stories in the face of unnecessary clutter. In the world of Damon Lindelofs, It is more than a little amazing to see a popular show doubling that philosophy, making Game of Thrones a standalone crossover dream.
